Lyon County Judge-Executive Wade White was able to travel as a guest of YAMAHA to Soldotna, Alaska, last week to speak about the invasive Asian carp crisis in our area.

This event was part of the Kenai River Classic and YAMAHA's "Right Waters" campaign, which works to fight against the spread of aquatic invasive species.

White said he was able to speak with U.S. Sen. Lisa Murkowski (R-Alaska). She serves on the appropriations committee and is a key player in the War on Carp organization's efforts to bring more federal funding to the area to battle Asian carp. Murkowski gave the opening remarks at the roundtable event immediately before he spoke.

White shared that Murkowski was familiar with our area's carp issue because she had spoken to Sen. Mitch McConnell about it previously, but she said the presentation and videos he brought to the roundtable helped her understand the crisis more fully.

He was also about to speak about the invasive carp with Sen. Roger Wicker (R-Mississippi).

White shared on the county's Facebook page that he felt a lot was accomplished during this trip toward getting the help the area needs to win the War on Carp.
