A small group of local businesses came together last week to donate $2,000 to Lyon County Elementary School to help purchase math curriculum for the students.
Rebecca Pagan, ReMax broker/owner, said the idea struck her during her first SBDM meeting last month, where she serves as a parent representative.
"I was amazed to hear all the different ways teachers tried to maximize their funds to achieve the best outcomes for their students," Pagan said. "Their determination inspired me to help find funds to help purchase math curriculum for the Elementary students."
She said her first call was to Kyle Fritts with Fritts Construction & Electric.
"Kyle has a phenomenal work crew," she shared. "He understands the need for a trained work force here in the area, to which math plays a vital role."
Next, Pagan said she reached out to Monti Collins, president of the Kentucky Barkley Lakes Board of Realtors, whose wife, Denise, is an elementary school teacher. She said Collins understands the struggles teachers face because of budget restraints.
Together, these local businesses managed to gather $2,000, which they presented to Elementary School Principal Amy Perdue at the SBDM meeting Aug. 21.
