With July nearly behind us, the countdown to the annual Founder's Day celebration is on!

This year's event will be Aug. 24 but, as always, there is an entire week's worth of fun to be had in Eddyville leading up to the celebration.

The festivities kick off on Aug. 17 with the Miss Founders Day pageant at the Lyon Convention Center at Lee S. Jones Park.

This year, the pageant is split into two parts, divided by age.

Ages birth through 8 years old will register at 10 a.m., with the pageant beginning at 11 a.m..

Divisions in this portion of the pageant will be:

• 0-11 months

• 1 & 2 year olds

• 3-5 year olds

• 6-8 year olds

Contestants will compete in only summer casual wear. No pageant wear will be permitted for this section of the pageant.

Nine through 19-year-olds will begin registration at 5 p.m. with the pageant to follow at 6 p.m..

Age divisions in this portion of the pageant are:

• 9-11 year olds

• 12-14 year olds

• 15-19 year olds

The 9 to 19 year old portion of the pageant is open only to girls who are residents of Lyon County or enrolled in Lyon County Schools.

Ages 9 to 11 may compete in either Sunday best or party dress, and ages 12 and up will compete in a pageant or prom dress (either long or short).

Entry forms for the pageant can be picked up at Eddyville City Hall, and are due by Aug. 16.

Registration is $25 for the first child, with each additional sibling being half-price.

For more information, contact Eddyville City Hall at (270) 388-2226 or pageant director Tracey Dobbins-Peek at (270) 625-1476.
