12 runs in fourth inning seals Lady Marshal win over Paducah Tilghman

Charley Pursley went 3/3 with two RBI's as the Lady Marshals defeated Paducah Tilghman to advance to the region one championship game.

PADUCAH -- The Lady Marshals put down their opponent in another five-inning game for round two in the KHSAA Region One Softball Tournament at Shepherds Field in Paducah. Marshall faced the Lady Tornado in a 10-run win, advancing to the championship game against Graves County.

The Lady Tornado attempted to take control of the game in the fourth inning. They loaded the bases with a single, double, and an HBP. The Lady Marshals began to struggle, allowing runs on another HBP, an error, and a two-run RBI triple.

A groundout by Emma Massey earned the second out but not before adding the sixth Paducah Tilghman run. Woodruff knocked in the seventh Lady Tornado run on a single to center field, and a ground out to Presley Jezik over to Addie Young ended the inning.

Trailing by five, the Lady Marshals settled in to take the win. Charley Pursley led off with a double to shortstop and was hit home on a bunt by McKenzie Elkins. Jezik stepped up to bat with bases loaded and sent one home on a hard-hit ground ball single to center field, pulling with three. Two more runs were added to the board on a single by Sarenna Tomassi to take the lead.

A triple RBI triple by Young put the Lady Marshals up by five with one out. Vasseur came in to run for Young and stole home on a wild ball pitched to Layne Pea for Marshall's run 13. Cayson Conner hit a sacrifice bunt to send Pea home. A fly ball to left field ended the inning with the Lady Marshals up by seven.

Marshall finished the fifth inning in a walk with a hard ground ball to center field by Young sending Pursley home for the win.

Gabbi Lovett and Murt both pitched with three hits. Lovett took the win allowing five runs on 58 pitches. Murt came in for relief with 35 pitches, two runs, and three strikeouts.

Young went 4-for-4 with four RBIs on two singles, a double, and a triple. Conner went 1-for-2, sending three runs home. Jezik, Tomassi, and Pursley all earned two RBIs.
