RICHMOND -- Jay Nimmo shot the best round last week during the finals of the Kentucky Boys and Girls Junior PGA Championships. He was part of a trio of Marshall County golfers that finished in the top 10 as the boys played the par-72 course at Gibson Bay Golf Club, while the girls took on the par-72 course at the University Club at Arlington.

The Benton golfer shot 70 as one of only three golfers to break par Tuesday. He finished fourth with a total of 1-under-par 143. Paducah's Rocco Zakutney improved on his 83 from Monday with a 75, good for a total of 158 that tied him for 40th. Benny Haggin of Lexington was the boys champ with a final total of 4-under 140.

On the girls side, Hallie Riley of Calvert City improved on 78 from Monday with a final round of 76. That was good enough to tie her for sixth at 154.

Savannah Howell of Benton went from a 76 to an 80 to end up with 156, which tied her for ninth. Laney Frye of Nicholasville won the event with a two-round total of even-par 144.

Paducah's Jessica Stephens shot 85 Tuesday to finish with 162, a tie for 18th.

Margaret Butts, also of Paducah, carded an 85 for a total of 167, good for 25th, while Lauren Gilchrist of Marion shot 87 for a final of 173 and a tie for 28th.
