Recycling center awarded grant

The State Division of Waste Management last week announced the award of $4.6 million in grants to Kentucky counties.

Among those was a grant to the Marshall County Recycling Center in the amount of $35,121.

The grants are aimed at reducing the amount of solid waste going tint landfills and improve the environmental management of household hazardous waste.

The Kentucky Pride Fund, which is generated by a $1.75 fee for each ton of municipal solid waste disposed of in Kentucky landfills, is financing the grants to the 84 recipient counties.

The grants require a 25% local match in the form of cash or in-kind personnel, educational activities or advertising to promote the program.
