Kent Lawrence (left), who now serves as one of two deputy coroners in Marshall County, is sworn in by State Rep. Chris Freeland.

Marshall County Coroner Michael Gordon recently selected Kent Lawrence to serve as one of two deputy coroners.

Lawrence has law enforcement experience from his time with the U.S. Air Force and is a Marshall County High School graduate. During his time with the USAF, he gained experience in death investigations as well as search and recovery in disaster scenes of plane crash sites in Alaska.

Gordon said while he believed Lawrence was the best choice for the job he was also sticking with his campaign pledge, which was selecting employees with law enforcement, medical or emergency management backgrounds.

Lawrence will spend the next few months in training with Gordon and Chief Deputy Coroner Curt Curtner before attending the Coroner's Basic Training Academy in Frankfort. He replaces Barry Taylor, who recently resigned.
