Lyon County Lyons Varsity fell to Calloway County 3-2 on Friday on the final play of the game. The game was tied at two with Calloway County batting in the bottom of the eighth when Jeremy Darnell singled on a 3-2 count, scoring one run.
The first three innings, both teams struggled to get on the board as the pitching was strong on both sides. Calloway County pitchers struck out eight, while Lyon County Lyons Varsity sat down six.
The Lyons would be the first on the board in the top of the fourth inning when a two out rally started by Christian O'Daniel and Brady Darnall, who hit back to back singles, put the Lyons in scoring position. Dylan Capello would earn himself a RBI and the Lyons the first run of the night on his hard hit ball to right field.
Unfortunately for the Lyons, Capello and Darnall would be left sitting on the bag.
Shutting out the Lakers in the bottom of the fourth inning and fifth inning, the Lyons maintained the lead and even added a run in the top of the fifth on Yancy's double that was drove in by Keaton Bridges.
The Lakers added runs in 6th and 7th innings tying up the game 2-2 forcing the game to go into extra innings. The home team advantage would seal the deal for the Lakers and the fate of the Lyons. After the Lyons came up empty handed in the top of the inning, just one run is all the Lakers needed to take away the win. A single by Darnell with Ward on 3rd would be all the Lakers needed. Final Score 3-2 Calloway County.
